Our Impact

- 3000+ children have experienced success through our programs.
- Calgary Reads student makes an average gain of a year in reading ability within a 16 week tutoring program and exhibits a 90 percent increase in self-confidence and desire to read.
- Parent capacity as their child's first best teacher is increasing throughout Calgary as a result of Reads@Home, with a 97 percent attendance rate in this program.
- Programs are designed using established results-based research on early literacy and are consistently updated as new research becomes available.
- In the 2007-08 school year 450+ children were served in 65 schools using 250+ trained tutors.
- Young readers are enabled to become lifelong learners, and productive and contributing citizens.
- Literacy and volunteerism is promoted as a benefit to the community - through our status as a Herald/Can-West Raise-a-Reader recipient, our memberships on the Boards of Volunteer Calgary, the Association of Directors of Volunteer Resources, Literacy Alberta and as a partner with CBC.
- The core tutoring per student costs ( approximately $400 per student) are a small upstream investment saving huge downstream costs.
