Our Uniqueness

Calgary Reads offers the only in-school programs in the Calgary area specific to struggling Grade 1 and 2 readers and their families. Our frameworks, including our program for English Language Learners (ELL), and our family literacy programs are well-grounded in early literacy, English as a Second Language (ESL) and family literacy research.

Children make, on average, a year's gain in their reading ability. We evaluate the impact of our programs annually and continue to celebrate the outcomes of our core tutoring.

Trained adult volunteers are the principal human resource for all our programs, and we support close to 450 volunteers at any given time. Without trained volunteers, Calgary Reads would not exist. Find out how you can volunteer for Calgary Reads.

Our funding comes from individuals, businesses and foundations. We do not receive funds from United Way or any government agencies. Find out how you can donate to Calgary Reads.

This student has made grade level for the first time. Teachers and parents are proud of this growth and pleased he had the opportunity to have Calgary Reads.
