Have you decided what your 3 Things for Calgary are yet?
Recently Mayor Nenshi’s Civic Engagement Committee launched a new initiative – 3 Things for Calgary – which asks us to imagine every Calgarian getting involved in three ways to make our city even better. It’s a simple concept: think of three things you can do to make your community better, do them, and then tell three people about what you did.
If you are having trouble deciding upon your three things, here’s a suggestion for your first one. Consider becoming a trained volunteer tutor with Calgary Reads. By spending two hours a week during the school day with a struggling reader in Grade 1 or 2, you will make a real difference in that child’s life. Because early literacy skills are fundamental building blocks to future success, it’s a difference that will last forever.
So join the growing team of Calgary Reads volunteers. You will make a difference in the life of a young reader and you will be off to a great start on accomplishing your 3 Things for Calgary!
